Issue Fatale (Joël Littorie)
A song from one of our favorite bands in Martinique, Creativ’ Sim. This is based on the rhythm danmyé, played for wrestling matches: fierce and proud.

Polar Bear Meltdown (Gerstin)
Fun funk in 6/4.

Canto Asoyin (Cuba traditional, arranged Gerstin)
A praise song to the deity Babalu Ayé, who governs sickness and health.

Canto Asoyin: bass solo The bass is accompanied by a chorus of bells adapted from Ghanaian folklore.

Zocalo Media Noche (Gerstin)
“Town Square at Midnight.” This is based on the chords to a Monk tune—can you guess which one?

Blood for Oil (Gerstin)
A dark groove based on interweaving 12/8 rhythms.

Balansé (Martinique traditional, arranged Gerstin & Jordan)
A beautiful song from Martinique, played for the slow dance gran bèlè du sud. “Dance the balance, dance the biguine. O little children in the dance circle, give me room to dance. Love brought me here with three blows of the drum.”
